Our trip took us to Lawrence, KS this time. A very welcomed 1 1/2 hour drive compared to the usual 2 1/2+ hour drive we normally have to make. The tournament landed this past Saturday, June 30th.
I was a bit more tired than usual at this event but for good reason. We stayed up late the night before awaiting the midnight release of the much anticipated 6th edition rulebooks we all ordered.
Anyway we arrived on time and got to chat about the new rules a bit and looked over the scenarios for the event ahead of us. I had a trusty Redbull and layed out my army, ready for the first match.
This mission was a bit difficult because it was night fight for turns 1-2 and 5-6. This made it a lot harder to utilize my ranged weapons. Our objective was table quarters and our deployment was spearhead. I was faced off against Codex Marines and he ran 3 Vindicators, 2 landraiders, assult Terminator squad, standard Terminator squad, Cassius, Librarian, and 2 Scout units. The first couple
turns minimal damage was done on my part. I lost the Terminator's Raven on turn two and the other on turn three. As for my turn 2 I assulted one Vindicator with my Death Company Dreadnaught nearest to the center of the board and on his side of the table. I also assulted the 5 man Terminator unit in cover(next to the Vindicator) with my Death Company. Needless to say those Terminators were destroyed. My Dreadnaught failed miserably needing only 4+ to hit with 5 attacks so there it stood point blank in front of an undamaged Vindicator. During his turn my Dreadnaught was destroyed and my Terminator unit was also destroyed from his unit of Assault Terminators that were in the Storm Raven's crater. He then proceeded to drop Vindicator rounds on my Death Company to try and wear them down. Their numbers were brought all the way do to one last man. Lamartes. Which is quite good because he then uses his jump pack. For the next couple turns he takes out both Scout squads single handedly while Mephiston destroys one Vindicator. Damage to me from that point is minimal. I lost one 5 man Assault squad and that was it. The Landraider Crusader which was immobilized in the center of the board took shots for the rest of the game and kept getting weapon destroyed results. Finally Mephiston made his was back towards it and finished it off on turn six. In the end we both held two table quarters which was a tie. After the bonus points were tallied up i came out on top.
My second opponent was the guy I rode up to the tournament with, of course! The mission here was 5 objectives. Our deployment for this round was also Spearhead. He won the roll to go first so both of my Storm Ravens went into reserves. The rest of my force was deployed near the back corner of my deployment zone. Except for Mephiston, who of course, lead the fight alone at the front. His turn 1 was fairly uneventful. As for the bottom of turn 1, I didn't have much to return because he made his cover saves on his boosted Raven. Turn 2 he immobilizes one of my Razorbacks. His Baal Predator outflanks and kills a couple Assault Marines in cover. He also brings on his Drop Pod Furioso(which he forgot turn 1) he places it in the back corner of my zone, it scatters off the table and dies due to the Deepstrike mishap table. The bottom of 2, I stun his Raven and boost my Terminator's Raven up the center that came on from reserves. I shot the multi-melta into his Landraider and its only stunned. Mephiston jumps in the center of the board in a tall building waiting for the counter charge. His Storm Raven only moves 6" and fires its missiles and lascannon at two of my vehicles. The immobile Razorback gets its weapon blown off and the other gets stunned. I return fire and take down the raven. Mephiston moves in to charge range. Both of my Storm Ravens team up on his Landraider and it is wrecked. His Assault squad jumps out and joins the combat with Mephiston and his Death Company. Mephiston takes out the rest of the Death Company and I flew my D Co Storm Raven over to have the Death Company Dreadnought join the combat and kills the rest of the Assault squad with its Blood Talons. I move my Assault Marines in to take the objectives and pull the win out of this game as well with a very large amount of bonus points.
On to the final match. I was matched up against an all Nurgle Deathguard army. This was definitely a tough one. The mission was victory points and the deployment was pitched battle. I won the roll to go first. The first couple turns was me trying to shut down his long range shooting. His only range was a lascannon Predator. His other heavies were both possessed Vindicators. My shooting wasn't as effective as I'd hoped but it shut down the Predator for the first few turns in order for me to get my Storm Ravens into position. They were making shots at the Vindicators in order to stop their high strength shots but failed. The Death Company's Raven got destroyed and the Terminator's was left undamaged through the rest of the match. He pushed the majority of his troops up my right side towards my table edge(where there wasn't much to protect them) Mephiston ended up dying to his Deamon Prince but he put 4 wounds on him. That same Prince also took out the Death Company Dreadnought but was slain as well. My Terminators were responsible for killing 2 Vindicators, 14 Plague Marines and a Rhino. All of which took place in his side of the table nearest his deployment zone. Back on my side, the rest of his Plague Marines were working to destroy the troops still holding my deployment zone. In the end he managed to destroy all 3 of the Razorbacks and 1 complete Assault squad in my zone. The other 2 were knocked down to 2 men out of the starting 5.
I won the game in the end by 1 battle point. The craziest part was that it put our overall battle points EXACTLY the same. Our game record was the same and so were our battle points. It was a tie in every way. So no one could decide on how to resolve this so me and my opponent decided we'd roll for it. I ended up winning the roll off and got the 1st place prize. It was a hell of a tournament and a hell of a way to end 5th edition.

Another Practice For The 30th
I faced off another opponent at the local shop with my tournament list. He ran a Vulkan Marine list.
We rolled sieze ground with a dawn of war deployment. He also won the roll to go first (which is perfectly fine with me) Following that I kept all my units off the board so they could walk on at the beginning of my turn 1. The game ran up to turn 5 and I won one objective to his none. My first turn I capitalized on his lack of troops and took out their transports. My second turn I reached his lines and destroyed both of his troop units. The following turns I kept him away from the objectives and closed in on the far left objective with my scoring Razorbacks on turn five.
Really looking forward to the tournament this weekend and feeling pretty good about the list.

This coming Saturday a friend of mine and I are attending a tournament for our last 5th edition tournament. We ran our lists against each other for a bit of a test run. He was playing Blood Angels as well and he ended up taking first turn. We played one of the tournament missions just to get a feel for it them. It went really well for me dispite having my worst deployment and going second. I ended up tableing him on turn 5 and scoring max VPs.

Ard Boyz Style Tournament
Well the tournament was an overall success. I started off a bit tired but as the first game went on I came more to life.
-Deployment/Mission
Spearhead/Objectives, Kill Points, Victory Points
-My first match was against Grey Knights. My opponent was a guy ive played several times at FRAG events. Great opponent and always a good game. He was running Draego and Crowe as his HQ choices. Next, he takes 2 five-man units of Paladins and 2 five-man units of Purifiers in razorbacks for scoring. He also has 2 Dreadnauguts with 2 twinlinked autocannons and psybolts, a Calexus assasin, a Techmarine with all grenades, and a Landraider Redeemer. That is all the basic units in his list.
The outcome was me getting max points but there were some hard fights during the game. It took my Bloodtalon Death Company Dread 5 full turns of combat to take out a 5 man unit if Paladins. My Terminator unit went down all in one go from the pistol shots from the assasin which was no good at all. And lastly it took my Librarian Dread 2 turns to finally get moving due to 1 perils and one failed psychic test. After six full turns I ended up taking max points and the big "W" from this game.
-Deployment/Mission
Pitched/Objective, Victory Points, Kill More HQs
-Round 2 for me was against a very solid player indeed. He was running Blood Angels as well and had a pretty hard build. For his HQ he ran a Reclusiarch and attached him to 9 Death Company(8 power weapons/1 powerfist) They were riding in a Landraider. Next he had 2 units of Assult Marines with 2 meltas and powerfist. Their rides were a pair of Landraider Crusaders. He had 2 more troop units of Assult Marines in lascannon Razorbacks. On the heavy side he ran 2 lascannon/missile launcher Dreadnaughts.
Started this match on a bad foot by having to go second. In a pitched battle deployment, for me, it automatically puts my Storm Ravens in reserve. His first round of shooting crippled my shooting so I had 1 of 4 Razorbacks returning fire. Over the next several turns it was a bit of a chess match trying to see who was going to commit first. He ended up moving in first and hurt my Death Company pretty badly. All that remained was my Librarian with one wound and Lamartes with one wound(never a bad thing!) My side came out on top thanks to the Death Company Dread and Lamartes going berzerk! I also assulted and broke his unit of Assult Marines with my Librarian Dread which was very important at that moment. After the rather epic Death Company on Death Company combat(which was the highlight without question!) and a handful of failures on my part trying to destroy Landraiders, the match went to my opponent. With a mere 126 victory points between us. Disappointing to say the least but hard fought and a hell of a game.
-Deployment/Mission
Dawn of War/Victory Points, Table Quarters, Capture and Control
-The final round put me up against a friend from the local group. He was running his Codex Marines(Iron Hands to be exact) His list consisted of a Librarian and a Master of the Forge for his HQs. His troops were three tactical squads with Razorbacks and one mounted in a Rhino. He then took a Thunderfire Cannon and 5 Dreadnaughts(2of which were Venerable) 3 Dreads were in drop pods as well. Lastly he ran a Storm Talon.
This game started off rather well for me. He won the roll to go first and did so.(and im quite ok with going second in DOW) He deployed his 2 units and i didnt deploy any. Forcing him to drop 2 of his pods and not know where I was going to end up. He drops both about 9" or so from my table edge and walks the rest of his force on the board in his deployment zone. On my first turn the entire force rolls on. I roll all 4 Razorback units forward and drop them out(2 for each Dread) Mephiston walks up the center and both Ravens boost up my left flank. The first shooting phase I took out both dreads in my zone and stopped the Storm Talon from shooting and moving. I also got a lucky vision roll and was able to see his Rhino with my boosted Raven and exploded it as well. His turn 2 he destroyed two Razorback turrets and a handful of my Marines but resulted in minimal damage. On my second turn I blew up both drop pods, the Storm Talon, another Dreadnaught, and 2 Razorbacks. During the assults I disembarked my Death Company Dread, it fleeted toward the unit that was inside the exploded Rhino the previous turn and wiped it out with no returning damage. It was at this point that my opponent conceeded and i got full points of that match.
The tournament ended in a 2-1 record and a total of 45 battle points, placing me in 3rd at the end. One point away from 2nd and a mere three points from 1st place. With 2 perfect games and one with a fairly poor outcome I can't complain about 3rd place.

Practice game for 2,500 point tournament
I ran one test game with the 2,500pt list. It was under the worst terms possible (I won the roll to go first and my opponent siezed on me and it was pitched battle. Which is NOT a good thing for Storm Ravens) That being said, after an extremely rough start I ended up winning it. Well the tournament is today so we'll see how things go.
